About the event

New Plymouth

Hop on a minivan and visit...

Magic T

Enjoy an explosion of flavours when you sample the beautiful collection of loose leaf herbal teas from Magic T.  Ehsan and his wife Frida, both from Iran, gather the best and purest of natural herbs & spices traditionally grown by farmers in Iran, Turkey, and India to produce their tea blends.  All of their ingredients are handpicked and shade dried before being hand-blended. To maintain products of the highest quality, they only run small batch production cycles. Ehsan will no doubt fill you in on his background as a voice actor and his quick wit is sure to give you a giggle or two.  Enjoy his company as you sip through their range of teas and taste all of the flavours that truly make this tea magic.

Known Unknown Wine

Get ready to hear some juicy tales at New Plymouth’s only urban winery - Known Unknown! There you'll meet winemaker, author, and educator, Jules van Costello, who specializes in making bright, fun, fruit-forward, wine, aperitifs, and cider. He will guide you through some of the most interesting history and science of winemaking in the very room where all of their wine making magic happens. Jules is an expert in creating and describing tastes and flavours to wow every palette and will also teach you how to put together the tastiest pairings of food and drink during your stop at Known Unknown.

North Egmont Meats - Certified BioGro Organic

Greg and Deborah, both from dairy farming parents and grandparents, run a certified organic BioGro farm in Egmont Village.   They are a humble couple who love what they do and the animals they breed and raise on farm.   Turning their farm to organic was a natural thing for them and their values around care for the land and animals.   As well as producing their organic meat, they also milk 50 cows and grow medicinal herbs to create health and beauty products using their own stills and hydrosols - these are used to help heal human as well as animal ailments.   They are excited to share their slice of paradise and talk through their everyday processes and plans for the future.  There will be a BBQ humming for you to try some of their glorious organic beef.  Deborah will also provide some samples of her herbal products.

IncaFé

Award winning coffee and a sustainable focused business, IncaFé Coffee is roasted in New Zealand’s first Toitū carboNZero certified roastery in New Plymouth and packaged in compostable bags.  IncaFé Organic Coffee is the ultimate blend of quality and sustainability with co-founders Carmen and Joop also putting great emphasis on fairtrade and supply chain transparency.   They source their beans directly from remote plantations in South America and Indonesia and pay above market rates for quality.  When travel allows, it is important to them to visit their plantations and keep a close relationship with their growers.  They will tell you a good few stories about their visits and 'adventures'(!) while travelling and you'll get a great insight into how their core values and dedication to 'doing things the right way' has lead to this local business to complete in the global coffee market and becoming a leading supplier of quality coffee to cafés around New Zealand.  This certainly is an inspiring and uplifting story.  They will of course also provide you all with a delicious coffee to sip on, while take a tour around their roastery.

Blue Petal Botanicals & Connoisseur Honey

Martina of Blue Petal Botanicals, cultivates her herbs on site and uses them to create a variety of  products from culinary and medicinal herb products, to herbal tonics and drinks and honey for nourishment and beauty.    Martina emigrated from Croatia almost 30 years ago and lives on a small farmlet with her husband who she met while working in the Oil and Gas industry.  For the last 20 years they have been planting trees, shrubs, natives, an orchard and now a herb field.  Her background in engineering helped her to turn her hand to working with and distilling herbs, along with her passion for the environment and natural products.   Martina set about learning all she could in this field through completing a one year homeopathy course with herbs, and completed workshops and courses in organic horticulture .  Recently, her husband helped to convert an old milking shed on their property into a beautiful workspace and kitchen, she now offers workshops using herbs from plated bread, seeded crackers, dukkah and hummus as well as herb infused oils, vinegar and wine.  While visiting Martina you will have a taste of her special mulled wine (perfect for a cold winters day), and try anything from her herb infused honey, freshly baked bread with hummus and dukkah to her speciality herbal tonics.
