Kahu Glen Farm

When Matthew Low and Melissa Burleigh-Low were looking to move house, Melissa wanted a bigger vegetable garden. What she ended up with in 2012 was a 500 tree feijoa orchard as part of a 4 hectare block which they have developed into Kahu Glen Farm. The name came as they noticed Kahu flying around the property when they moved on and Glen for Melissa’s Scottish heritage.

They run the Bio Gro Cerified Organic orchard and farm alongside their day jobs; Melissa as deputy-principal at Lepperton School and Matt as a civil engineer for Beca.  They are also parents to James and Emily.  Life is a juggling act with all hands on deck during feijoa season! Production has increased from between 3 and 4 tonnes in their first season to between 8 and 9 tonnes on a good season.  Kahu Glen Farm supplies feijoas around Taranaki as well as a feijoa and apple juice which is currently available at Airspresso, Lepperton Café, Crazy Pumpkin, Taranaki Farmers Market and Feel the Love.  Along with the feijoa and apple juice, there will also be a selection of feijoa flavoured snacks to sample during your visit.  You will also have the opportunity to walk through one of NZ’s first hempcrete houses and have a chance to explore Matt & Melissa’s sustainable lifestyle.

Treasured Morning

When granola guru Liz O'Callaghan, decided to move her business from Auckland, she knew Taranaki was the perfect place to dive deeper into growing her superfood business, Treasured Morning.  Originally branded High Protein Breakfast, her granola-style breakfast provides a tasty, crunchy blend of superfoods to fuel a healthier, happier, more energetic you.  There are three different flavours to enjoy; Apple Crumble (plant- based), Peach & Nectarine, and Berry (include honey).  Whether you mix Treasured Morning with yoghurt, sprinkle it over fruit or use it in your cooking, you're sure to find a favourite way to add this delicious, filling food to your brekkie routine!  Liz will provide a generous taste of each product while talking to you about how she carefully selected all the superfoods to ensure that her customers have the best start to their morning or a boost of additional nutrients at any time of the day!

Blue Petal Botanicals & Connoisseur Honey

Martina of Blue Petal Botanicals, cultivates her herbs on site and uses them to create a variety of products from culinary and medicinal herb products, to herbal tonics and drinks and honey for nourishment and beauty.  Martina emigrated from Croatia almost 30 years ago and lives on a small farmlet with her husband who she met while working in the Oil and Gas industry.  For the last 20 years they have been planting trees, shrubs, natives, an orchard and now a herb field.  Her background in engineering helped her to turn her hand to working with and distilling herbs, along with her passion for the environment and natural products.   Martina set about learning all she could in this field through completing a one year homeopathy course with herbs, and completed workshops and courses in organic horticulture .  Recently, her husband helped to convert an old milking shed on their property into a beautiful workspace and kitchen.  She now offers workshops using herbs, from plated bread, seeded crackers, dukkah and hummus to herb infused oils, vinegar and wine.  While visiting Martina you will have a taste of her special mulled wine (perfect for a cold winters day), and try anything from her herb infused honey, freshly baked bread with hummus and dukkah to her speciality herbal tonics.

Lunch Venue - Wild Pear Kitchen

A plant-based café kitchen offering fresh flavoursome super-foods served up in salads, wild food bowls and warm and hearty plant based dishes.  They also provide a large selection of smoothies and cabinet food that is as pleasing to your eyes as it will be to your stomach!  Choose your superfood lunch bowl and enjoy it with a smoothie, coffee or cold drink of your choice, followed by a sweet treat from their cabinet selection.
